Today was like Groundhog Day. If you've watched the movie or heard of it, like i have, you'd know what i mean. Every Chinese New Year is exactly the same as the one before. Same Pinteresque conversations (ha! my education's paying off. now i have a word to describe subjectless things)about nothing, same order of obscure houses in the east to visit, same photo-taking sessions. But as bong put it, we're getting paid and fed to go through this. So.

At the end of it though, i caught Surprise Wedding on tv. It's one of those shows i'd never watch given a choice, but there was nothing else to do with family i don't really talk to. So I watched, and cringed at the six emotional brides-to-may-be tell the world why "Dave is the man for me" and trick their unsuspecting boyfriends to come from backstage to their surprise wedding. But Surprise Wedding yielded 5 out of 6 weddings! And it was unexpectedly sweet. The looks on some of those guys' faces told me they'd die before saying yes, but i was wrong. And it strikes me now. The love stories with the fairytale endings don't have to be the ones that are like fairytales throughout. The first girl? Impulsive, desperate, emotional, told him he was her soulmate the first time they met; he ran away from her before their intended wedding a while ago. But when she shocked him with her proposal, he turned it round and made it his proposal, on bent knee. And that other couple, that met on the internet and had only seen each other in person for 29 days. All these stories with so many reasons why they wouldn't work out in romantic logic--but i'd underestimated love. Love is more than perfect dates and perfect personalities. Love doesn't work out only for the ones who are emotionally stable and understanding and mature and gracious and unembarrassing. Love doesn't work out only for the charming and demure and sensible. Love is for all the fools out there. Love makes fools out of every person.

if only i had one wish
i want a million trillion lifetimes that i could spend with you
falling in love with you
again and again

that First Feeling
