The best (late) web discovery of late, in the same vein as regretsy.com and photoshopdisasters: stuffwhitepeoplelike.

First up, know that it is written by a white guy, theoretically making it "okay". The site separates the particular white people it talks about from Europeans. Reading it though, I have learnt that Singaporeans are white people too. I searched it looking for clever sarcastic remarks about Apple Products, but what it came up with cannot come close to my disdain for iWorld.

Note that I do think the products are pretty and desirable. I just think it tragic how people have fallen so predictably for the marketing myths that Apples are essential for graphic design, film editing, and every creative thing under the sun. Granted, the "Hi I'm a PC.." "And I'm a Mac" series of ads were brilliant at branding. Nobody wants to be the stuffy fat PC guy. But seriously, in a world that claims to know how not to fall into the traps of advertising, we aren't doing too well are we?

Now people will genuinely wonder why your new phone isn't an iPhone, or your music player isn't an iPod or why you do all your design work on a humble PC at home instead of carrying it around in a Powerbook. It's easy to start feeling embarrassed about one's non touch-screen phone (or non-qwerty phone, but that's another story and the BB hasn't offended me enough to warrant an essay on it). It's all part of the iPlan.

Anyway, this post is just an intro to my new phone, which is a pink Samsung clamshell with a numeric keypad that doesn't even have 3G because I don't need that in Singapore. I am all for the resurrection of diversification.
