I'm sure you've used the phrase "made a beeline for the buffet table" or something like that. The idea being that bees make a straight, singletrack line for their destination.

Wrong, my friends. The bee in my room this morning was very irritating because it precisely did not make the beelines it is supposed to make. It spun in dizzy circles without thinking where it wanted to go. I trapped it with my curtain and shoved it out the window, but its circles took it back into my room. I watched it spiral back and forth until it waltzed out my door, then shut it.

Not gone. It somehow managed to waltz back in while I was closing the door, making those silly circular beelines towards me and away from me and towards me.

I brought ET in from the other room and set her on the floor. She used to kill anything that flew, crawled or skittered into our house. Lizard heads were found on rugs, cockroaches lay limbless and dying, and a bird was defeathered in our living room. "Prove that you still have it in you!" I said to her.

She looked at the dizzy bee, and as it made its circles towards her, backed away and walked back to her nap. Useless cat.
