I learnt this painful lesson after watching someone fall.

We must not confuse God with our Idea of God.
We must not confuse God with Life.
We must not forget Jesus, in our search for God.

It is so easy to call out to God, this faceless abstract notion of a supreme being, and live in our idea of decency and virtue. We were made to have a perception of what God should be like. So He fills the void easily when we imagine Him.

But not all who call out to God remember Jesus. He is the center of our faith, the reason we can stand before God. He is the reason there is the concept of mercy, the concept of forgiveness, the concept of redemption. Without Jesus, our faith is in vain.

So when you pray to "God", are you remembering to talk to Jesus?
When you explain Christianity to somebody, do you explain Christ?
The test will come when somebody of another religion tells you that we are all worshipping the same God. And if you have never equated God to Jesus, you will eventually believe him.

You may be serving in church, going on mission trips. You may be sending Bible verses to your friends and posting them on your wall. You may be devoting every morning to time with God. Yet because it was never Jesus you spent time with, you could change your religion and feel convinced that you are still worshipping God.

Imagine reaching heaven, only to hear Jesus say, "I never knew you." Despite all that we thought we did for God, is it possible that we literally never knew Jesus?

Because once you meet Jesus, you will know. He will change your life.

I have been sad these few days, thinking of her and how I'd always thought she was a strong Christian. The word "strong" is deceptive; we look for strength based on visible actions. Despite all her actions, she was actually weak, without foundation. And eventually, she eliminated Jesus from God.
