About a year ago, I did this logo for wimbly lu, a chocolate cafe. The owners, Weebs and Lu, bought a shophouse and had all these dramatic ideas for the interior. They'd found my website and wanted their logo to be like the symmetrical heart house I drew before.

So the logo represents this shophouse: complete with their symbolic car in the front. Pity about the kerning for the signage, should have warned them about this font. But other than that, this fastidious duo took pains to ensure the lights behind the signage were individually installed, so that there'd be shadows and gradients.

A walk of fame tile for the logo!

Weebs and Lu are very into DIY and mosaic. I love this.

Every section of the place is done up differently, with furniture pulled in from everywhere. It doesn't have that manufactured retro vibe, probably because it took them nine months to renovate and decorate, and source for pieces of furnishing they love.
Such as this curious footrest.

The wooden border for this counter was made by them out of discarded crates.

And Lu installed all the lights!

The section at the back has a mossy earth floor, though indoors.

Lu in her professional garment. Very heartwarming to see that they love the logo--it's everywhere.

One of the desserts served last night: cream over meringue.

And of course everyone bought a box of truffles to support them.

Three sizes of boxes, in three different colours.

The truffles are solid to the touch, but completely soft and liquid when bitten into. I had the rum and raisin truffle, and it reminded me of a story I read when I was little that described rum as "fire water". Very heady. The other flavours are Dark, Milk, Milo, Orange, and Chartreuse.

Apart from truffles, they serve light food like sandwiches and salads, along with drinks like the exotic fruit beers we had last night.

It makes me happy to see people going out to fulfill their dreams. They come to me at a point when they are ready to sink their savings into a new business, when the dream gets serious enough for them to pay for a proper logo. How the businesses turn out, none of us know at the start. But I'm there when the hopes are highest, when ideas keep coming and the owners are willing to bank on their vague visions.

And when I make the logo, that's me fulfilling my dream as well. There's nothing more rewarding in this line than for someone to want your work to define their identity, than for someone to say that your style, without amendment or compromise, is exactly what they need to tell their story.

Here's to Wimbly Lu, and the love of craft and dreams, whatever yours may be.
