A wedding begins with a list of to-dos, and ends with the tiredness of have-dones.
In-between, there is almost no time to savour the moment. No time to talk about the meaning of things, or how long we've waited for this day.
So because there was no time for these words, here they are:
I'm glad your dreams are coming true. I'm glad that you are starting your own family, in your own home, with somebody who loves you dearly. You had a list of criteria you wrote when you were nineteen, criteria for your future husband. "Must drive well." "Must dress well." The one you're walking down the aisle to now doesn't fit that criteria. But that all the more goes to show (me, anyway) that he is very special to you indeed.
I know your being married means you will take another step further away from the GGs. You will know things none of us know, and have needs that our conversations can't fill. You've moved on into a different phase of life, far away from our dreamsome talk of future wedding entrance songs and dating boys. We miss you already, but bless you with all our hearts.
