Loneliness used to be a Cranberries song that I played when Valentine's Day came around. Loneliness was only about love. Poems, missing halves, and such.

I'm not so naive these days. Loneliness is bigger than that.

Loneliness is not having anyone stand up for you in class when you present your bad idea. Loneliness is having people gossip about your furry boots. Loneliness is lying on a platform as still life for silent people to draw. Loneliness is hiding in a library because you wouldn't feel comfortable at the party you were invited to. Loneliness is being tired of all your music, but listening to it anyway because nothing and nobody else will keep you awake at your computer at night. Loneliness is lunch with anybody. Loneliness is finding out your friend just celebrated her birthday. Loneliness is wanting to be alone.

I watch them and I understand. I don't have loneliness.
