“That genre is driven by the female audience, and I don’t know that girls relate to her. Megan [Fox] leads with pure, raw sexuality, and for girls it’s a turn-off.” --A movie exec, who wasn’t involved in the making of Jennifer’s Body, on why the horror-comedy didn’t hit box office gold in the US. -8 Days (yup, I read 8 Days)

Maybe Megan Fox reminds us of the ‘hot girls’ back in secondary school (and JC, and university, and in the world) who were incidentally also bitches. The definition of a bitch being a female who despises other females , but who walks and talks and hems up her skirt to get the favour of males. Even so, why would we hate these Megan Foxes (MFs)? Why did we? It seems like the girls who hate MFs the most are the ones who aren’t even in the game, so it’s not about competition. Do we think their shamelessness shames us?

I remember when the top MF stepped into my sec 2 class one day to borrow a book. The tomboy-clown of my class marched up to her, unprovoked, and hurled a string of “Get out, we hate you!” in her face, complete with flailing fists. To which the MF retorted, “F--- you, you little churchmouse.”

There are two kinds of attractive females. There are the girls that boys and girls both like, and there are the kind that only boys like. I don’t exactly hate the latter. But from a purely fashion viewpoint, I do shake my head at them for uncreatively pandering to the simple tastes of hotblooded men. How difficult is it to flash some skin? Sartorial preschool. Designers can go bust, let’s all shop at This Fashion.

The hot girls that girls like do not pander to anybody’s taste. In fact, the highest of our rolemodels are distinctly anti-mainstream-hot. We value class over sexuality. It takes a certain coolness to abandon the easy way out, and dress to please no man. It takes real beauty to be hot without lip-liner, breast implants, bronzer, colored lenses, the works--a bag of tricks invisible to the male eye but not the female. My heroes are the anti-MFs, the masters of creative attraction.

Unfortunately, the world runs on a different kind of appreciation. Let’s not blame the MFs for worldwide sad style then. Let’s just blame the men. :p
