Third last day of work, and i overslept Again. So far there hasn't been a day when i've come in at the official starting time of 10:30 am. Eeeeps. The weekend was the longest two days i've ever had. Starting with the sleepover at jess's to marinate the chicken wings and beef slices and waking up at the evil hour of six to get to st john's the next morning. That day feels so faraway. Wolfing down marvellous fresh hotcakes and butter, and bumping up and down in the back of jon cheah's blue van (i have to get a minivan sometime), transporting crates and crates of food and feeling slightly important because of that, laughing and honky-tonking throughout the ferry trip with Candy and Pretty and Apple and Bobo--scgs girls are crazy fun almost like a01d girls. I thought we would mix more with the rest of the youth group that we'd never gotten to know, but sharon, jess and i spent most of our time chopping veggies and boiling water in the kitchen. I think we did a pretty sophisticated job for a camp. Now i'm more than ready to take on catering work again. (First up is a ladies' lunch, 4th july! yippee for the Kitchen Klutz!)
St John's island had the clearest sky ever on the first night. There were games throughout the day and night, but the best part was just lying out on the breakwaters looking up at the piercing moon. And then, sharing secrets in whispers across the top bunks with amelia till an unknown late hour. On the second night, i learnt how to play bridge, and learnt how to play murderer and bridge well. Then we followed adrian to lazarus island at around 3 am, believing him when he said it was a 5-min walk across a bridge. By the time we got there, we just sprawled out on the endless flat and cold sand and drifted in and out of twilight sleep until the sun rose. In the darkness the island looked magical--pure curious expanses of white sand, dark tangled jungles, absolutely no one else around. When the sun came up though, we discovered we'd been lying on quite a lot of debris, and there were a few trucks behind us. Haha. What moonlight can do for a place. I learnt that the people in my youth group are divided into three cliques: the seldom-comers, the ones who grew up together, and my friends and me, who attach ourselves to either of the two groups when we feel we shouldn't be antisocial. There were a lot of couples too.
After having no sleep at all on the last night, i went straight from our noodle hut lunch to the office, and tried not to fall asleep over Voice Protection designs. All is happy and all is well, and my plans for the month of july make july look like the best month ever.
