Tomorrow will be the last day of my 7-month holiday. When i was studying for my A's i thought of the seemingly endless holiday ahead of me and felt empowered to press on. All the jobs I'd try, all the afternoons i'd waste on the beach, all the lazy shopping trips with the girls i'd have. There was only one day on the beach as it turned out, and i saw my holidaying friends much less than expected. But the scores look good still.
No. of jobs: 4. (Haagen Dazs, World Prime, catering, tuition)
No. of Holidays: 2. (Vietnam and Perth)
No. of flea markets: 2.
No. of times i dyed my hair: only 1, when school ended.
No. of manicures: less than 5, thanks to Haagen Dazs rules
No. of books i've read: 6. Pathetic.
I'm so glad i spent the last two weeks of this holiday exploring Singapore like a tourist, complete with my 1999 transitlink guidebook. I remember saying i wanted "lots of walks and talks and walks and talks. lots." Well, that's what i got. Arab street and Peninsula Hotel and the whole of town ten times through, and thinking about the crazy free-ness and splendid use of time makes my heart burst for air. This week has been spent stitching away in my hole of a room, and i've produced 4 bags and enough earrings. If only you could hear my contented sigh. Tomorrow Dawn, Aimei and i will go through the final night together, and then it's Flea Carnival!
On a slightly depressive note, i just got an email from my ex-boss requesting some graphics for an event. With a "P.S" telling me the guy who took over my place apparently isn't with the company anymore. I knew he wasn't an efficient worker, but i don't think he was fired. I think he ploughed through half the phonecalls, probably reached up to "P" for government-aided primary schools, and decided to quit. Poor Karen. In World Prime, there are no job hazards. There's just the Hazardous Job.
It's only depressing because while i don't ever have to return to that office, Karen's whole life is her job. How anticlimactic, to graduate from university and find yourself scrimping on meals and rough paper to cut company costs, with enough funds only to hire temporary staff, with datelines that continue to press and bills that continue to be payable.
And soon i will be a university student. Eeeps.
