I met Hannah today. Before she arrived she said "i'm bringing my boy along," and for a split-second i thought she meant her brother, before I remembered it probably was her boyfriend. And it was. But not really.

We shook hands and she said, "He was my boyfriend... but he proposed." And her finger flashed on cue. Years of watching movies have trained me to decode flashes. "Seriously?" I asked, thinking it was the kind of joke I'd play on my friends.

His face was too solemn for someone I'd just shaken hands with. So yes it was, not a joke but two days ago at the zoo, while her family looked on and videotaped it all.

And so here goes the first of my childhood friends, with an engagement ring and an engagement camera. I walked in front of them and he often said to her, "whatever you want." Later on he looked at the floor and found a pair of tickets to a 9:10 pm movie, and I happily bade them go watch it while I ran errands and went home.

I messaged my mum, "hannah is engaged." And she replied, "oh" just like that, without punctuation.

I don't really have any wedding dreams. The simplest dress will do. Just one minute in mind: travis's flowers in the window as i walk in, that's all. Yup. I'm still too young for this.
