I'm doing something for rachel's wedding, and so I've been trawling beautiful wedding websites in solid admiration of these casual American weddings with all their DIY decor. Let all wedding packages and stuffy gowns be banned from Singapore! I especially cringe at Singaporean wedding shoots that dress the couple up in Japanese, army, 20's Shanghai, and other costumed eras, masking the personality of the couple. What did the couple do in their free time? Are they funny? Playful? Where do they go? There are endless photoshoot possibilities, not just making the couple gaze serenely at a far spot against a backdrop of the Alexandra field. Not that those photoshoots aren't pretty. They are perfect. The couple always looks dramatically glamourous, white train sprawled over green hills, chaste kisses on cheeks. But it would be so nice to go to a wedding and see their slideshow and have a glimpse of what their couple-world is like, like this:

This wedding below had a modern art theme.

whereas this couple did a rainy-day/umbrella theme befitting of the season:

And wedding receptions have the potential to look this good! I love matchy matchy colored items.

A very messy, homespun wedding cake. Like something that would crash out of my kitchen, or Alice in Wonderland.

Rachel's having the wedding ceremony in the States, and is dedicated to DIY-ing her own decor, or part of it, like these casual American brides. I wonder how well Singaporeans will take to this kind of wedding. What they'd think if they saw paper birds hanging over the banquet table, or if the bride wore colorful flats. I imagine they would fall in love with the idea.
