These are the Cebu inmates who did MJ's Thriller, among other synchronised dance routines like Soulja Boy and I Need a Hero. The Catholic prison thought of using dance to rehabilitate the inmates and to keep them out of gangs. Unless you hate dancing for hours on end, pretty sweet a rehabilitation I say.

There are a few main dancers who seem to get all the limelight for a few of them, such as the long-ponytailed man with a receding hairline. He seems to really love being the main dancer. The rest of the 1500-odd inmates are packed in neat rows doing actions on the spot. Usually the faces of prisoners are kept in shame, but here they are out on display for all to see.

I won't delve into the ethics of making murderers youtube stars. Or how pure the intentions and processes are behind the scenes, what with all the dirt being dished about Garcia, the man supposedly perverse and behind all this. But there's something light in the faces and effort of the dancers, a kind of pride, that makes me brush off any cynicism. I think that the world needs redemption for all its coldness, and this, in a cybersea of obnoxious design blogs and mafia wars and everything I've been surfing, made my heart a little warmer tonight.
